Pyongyang, November 3 (KCNA) -- Officials and scientists of the State Academy of Sciences in the DPRK greeting the 70th anniversary of its foundation are making all-out efforts to attain the research targets for this year. The Ferrous Metal Institute of the academy succeeded in introducing oxygen-pulverized coal injection technology into the UHP electric arc furnace in cooperation with the Chollima Steel Complex, thus greatly reducing the steel-making time per charge and the production cost per ton of steel. The Environmental Engineering Institute introduced a new technology for purifying industrial water into the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, contributing to putting its production of pig iron on a normal basis. The powerful cooperative research teams of 16 units dispatched to fertilizer production bases across the country have tackled lots of problems arising in reinforcing the production processes and giving full play to their capabilities. The Thermal Engineering Institute introduced a new non-heavy oil ignition technology into large boilers of the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex to increase the output of electricity and reduce the consumption per unit. Scientists of the Electricity Institute, the Automation Institute, the Nano Materials Institute of the Nano Engineering Branch and the Silicate Engineering Institute contributed to the production of electricity by introducing research findings into thermal power plants across the country. The Geology Institute tabulated the history of earth's strata in Korea for the first time, which is of key importance in clarifying the geological composition of the country, and found a new coal development site while saving huge prospecting expenses. The Mechanical Engineering Institute and other research institutes have contributed to the normal production at the Sunchon Cement Complex and the Geology Institute selected a prospecting site for raw materials of the cement industry. Other units, too, are registering good results in scientific researches for agriculture, light industry, people's living and the emergency anti-epidemic work. |
