The Wonsan Army-People Power Station in Kangwon Province is one of the power stations built true to the intention of the Workers' Party of Korea to make all the local areas solve the problem of electric-power production with regional water sources.

The power station is associated with the great leadership feats of the peerlessly great men.

In January Juche 98 (2009), Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the site for the power station, where he saw to it that a new power station was built in the site to successfully resolve the problem of electric power in the province. And he named the power station Wonsan Army-People Power Station and chose the sites for the dam, waterway tunnel and electric generator room.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un paid deep attention to the construction of the power station associated with the Chairman's noble patriotic devotion and love for the people and resolved all the problems arising in the construction.

In spite of difficulties, the people in Kangwon Province built the power station, a grand monumental edifice, by pushing ahead with the construction in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance.

In December 2016, six years ago, Kim Jong Un visited the newly-built power station, where he said that the power station demonstrated once again the truth that self-reliance is the only way to survive and nothing is impossible when the great spirit of self-reliance and self-development is held fast to as the dynamic force, and where he added that the power station was associated with the indomitable offensive spirit of the Party.

In hearty response to Kim Jong Un's instructions to more dynamically promote the creation and construction, not resting on the laurels, the people in the province are now pushing forward with the construction of Phyonggang and Sepho army-people power stations, overcoming the ordeals and difficulties as creators of the Kangwon Province spirit.
