To cope with the disastrous abnormal weather, scientists at the Academy of Agricultural Science grew new strains of rice, the seeds of which can be sown in the right time, new strains of wheat and barley with a wide variety of uses, and per-hectare high-yielding functional vegetables of good strains. They thereby proved the varieties' superiority.

They developed crop growth promoter, fermentation accelerator for compound microorganisms, seed-covering materials and other agricultural intellectual products and applied them to many farms.

Wonsan and Sinuiju universities of agriculture contributed to the agricultural development by cultivating and adopting the high-yielding strains of rice suited to the specific geographical features of their provinces and by making efficient farm machines.
