Its promulgation was a historic event of epochal significance in strengthening the DPRK and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.

The Socialist Constitution of the DPRK is associated with the great efforts of the peerlessly great men who advanced the Juche-oriented idea of enacting laws and energetically led the work for its realization.

President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the Constitution of the DPRK was adopted at the First Session of the Supreme People's Assembly in September 1948, on the basis of the "Ten-Point Programme of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland", worked out by him during the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, and the successes and experience gained in the state building in the northern half of Korea after its liberation.

When the establishment of a new constitution presented itself as a task of the times which brooked no further delay in order to consolidate and develop the socialist system in the early 1970s, the President put his heart and soul into enacting the constitution whose composition and contents were completely formed in our own way.

The revolutionary and popular socialist constitution was adopted thanks to the energetic leadership of the President who set forth the principled issues and every article of the new constitution and paid deep attention to each phrases.

When the whole country deeply grieved over the loss of the President, the father of the nation, Chairman Kim Jong Il himself made out the draft for the new preamble of the Socialist Constitution, saying the preamble should clearly reflect the idea that the DPRK is the President's state which is inseparable from his august name.

Consequently, the Kim Il Sung Constitution came to be adopted at the First Session of the Tenth Supreme People's Assembly in September 1998, thanks to the noble moral obligation of Kim Jong Il who saw to it that Kim Il Sung was held in high esteem as the eternal President of the Republic.

The adoption of the Kim Il Sung Constitution made it possible for the DPRK to demonstrate to the whole world its dignity as a socialist state of Juche thoroughly embodying the ideas and exploits of the President in all sectors of the revolution and construction.

In the new century of Juche, the Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Constitution was promulgated at the 5th Session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly thanks to the noble loyalty, moral obligation and energetic leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. Thus, the Socialist Constitution of the DPRK came to shine more brilliantly as the constitution for immortalizing the leaders and the political charter of Juche.
