True to the idea of the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the commission set the main research tasks for building a decisive guarantee for the fulfillment of the five-year plan this year and concentrates efforts on carrying them out, while intensifying the scientific and technological administration.

Its main efforts are directed to the readjustment and reinforcement of production bases in the key industrial sectors including metallurgical and chemical industries to make a breakthrough.

The research and development project is progressing apace to give full play to the existing production capacity in electric-power, coal, machine and building-materials industries.

The commission has also striven to solve the pending scientific and technical problems in the field related with the people's living, including the perfection of the technology for cultivating strains of crops suitable for various ecological areas by introducing advanced farming technology.

Meanwhile, research work is stepped up to bring about a sharp upward turn in overall science and technology.
