Rodong Sinmun on Bolstering up Military Capability for Self-Defence
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- It is a bitter lesson of history that if one depends on others without one's own things, one will become the weak and ultimately fall prey to the imperialists, to say nothing of failing to defend the sovereignty and dignity of a country, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in an article.

Any country and nation does not want to live under other's domination and subjugation without sovereignty, the article says, and goes on:

The demand for independence is not realized by itself by any subjective desire or accidental factors. Only when we build the economy and national defence with the stand of believing in our own strength and doing everything by our own efforts, can we consolidate the independence of the country and achieve prosperity and development.

History shows that no country has ever achieved genuine independence and national prosperity by depending on others.

It is a stark reality that if one fails to have one's own strong strength and self-reliant defence capabilities, one can neither defeat the imperialists, the enemy of peace, nor defend the country and nation and protect the security of the people.

Our experience of the revolutionary struggle shows how just it was that we have built the economy which is advancing by our own efforts without depending on others while firmly maintaining the political independence throughout the whole period of state building and built up a powerful defence capability to defend ourselves by our own efforts.

Our people have not looked at others for their difficulties, though they have taken the arduous road no one had ever followed. They have struggled with the firm viewpoint that they are the masters of the Korean revolution.

The Korean people will as ever firmly adhere to the principle of independence and surely build a thriving socialist power on this land.
