Newspapers Disclose Japanese Imperialists' Past History of Aggression
Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- Leading newspapers of the DPRK on Thursday carry articles to disclose the shamelessness of the Japanese imperialists who usurped the sovereignty of Korea in a gangster-like way.

History records not a few crimes committed by aggressors and occupiers but there have been no such shameless and vicious ones as the Japanese imperialists, says Rodong Sinmun, adding:

Since they stretched out their tentacles of aggression on Korea, the Japanese imperialists had cooked up lots of treaties and documents in a gangster-like way to violate the Korean people's sovereignty.

Typical of them is the "Korea-Japan Protocol" concluded under the Japanese imperialists' military threat and blackmail on February 23, 1904.

Occupying Korea by force, the Japanese imperialists tried to legitimate their occupation through conclusion of a "diplomatic document", but came to failure due to the strong opposition of the Korean feudal government.

At last, they removed all the feudal government officials, who opposed the conclusion of a "protocol", through undisguised threat and blackmail and abduction and cooked it up in a far-fetched manner.

After the fabrication of the "Korea-Japan Protocol", they went over to a stage of realizing their direct domination over Korea. Finally, they completely usurped the sovereignty of Korea by force of arms and turned it into their colony.

When the humiliating "Korea-Japan Protocol" was concluded, the Korean pioneers launched various patriotic movements to restore the sovereignty of the country.

But all patriotic movements of the Korean people were mercilessly trampled down by the Japanese imperialist aggressors. The Korean people had to be deprived of their country by the aggressors as they had no strength.

Only when one is strong, can one defend the sovereignty and demonstrate the dignity and honor. This is another truth taught by the history of the Korean nation which was deprived of its sovereignty for its weakness in military strength in the last century.

Minju Joson says that the course of the "protocol" and other criminal treaties cooked up at that time shows how craftily and viciously Japan worked hard to occupy Korea. And it urges Japan to make a proper option, though belatedly, clearly mindful that it can never evade the responsibility for the settlement of its past.
