Agricultural Measures Taken in DPRK
Pyongyang, March 17 (KCNA) -- The North Hamgyong Provincial Rural Economy Committee of the DPRK has taken positive measures to implement the resolutions of the Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Officials of the provincial rural economy committee are developing their plan for increasing the per-hectare grain yield on the basis of the analysis of last year's experience and lessons in farming.

Measures are being taken to increase the fertility of soil and improve low-yielding areas, the key to increasing grain production, after establishing a scientific plan for farming by region, season and farming processes that can actively cope with disastrous weather.

Meanwhile, measures were taken to increase the area under wheat and barley cultivation and raise the per-hectare yield in potato farming in the highlands while ensuring that the distribution, sowing and cultivation of crops are put on a scientific and technological basis on the principle of right crop on the right soil and right crop in the right time.

The province has pushed ahead with the work to improve and perfect the irrigation system. It is now pushing ahead with the waterway cleaning and the irrigation construction with the main emphasis on the fields vulnerable to drought and flooding.

The Chongjin Trailing Farm Machine Factory has been remodeled and measures are taken by city and county farm machine stations to ensure the production and repair of farm machines in a qualitative way so as to prevent any interruption in the implementation of farming processes.

In order to radically increase the area of cropland, measures have been taken to thoroughly survey the use of agricultural land, reduce and restore the washed and buried land and raise the production of vegetables and livestock products.
