The stadium is a significant place associated with the history of the revolutionary leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and a grand edifice for sports and culture serving the development of the sports and the cultural and emotional life of the people.

Its employees and officials successfully ensured a lot of political events and international and domestic sports games and played an important role in raising the public interest in sports and the flames of mass sports, true to the noble intention of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who built the grand building on the picturesque bank of the Pothong River and paid deep attention to its management and operation.

They renovated the stadium in a modern way and substantially ensured its regular management. So, while briskly conducting sports and cultural service activities for the working people and youth and children for the past decade, they responsibly ensured the important political events like the historic congresses, various kinds of art performances including the grand performance in celebration of the 8th Congress of the WPK and sports festivals.

A meeting took place on April 3 to mark the 50th founding anniversary of the stadium.

Attending it were Ri Il Hwan, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, officials concerned and officials and employees of the stadium.

Ri Il Hwan conveyed a congratulatory message of the Central Committee of the WPK to the employees and officials of the stadium.

The Central Committee of the WPK in the congratulatory message spoke highly of the stadium for setting practical examples in taking the lead in the implementation of ideological, technical and cultural revolutions with strong fighting efficiency.
