8th April Spring People's Art Festival Opens
Pyongyang, April 13 (KCNA) -- The 8th April Spring People's Art Festival opened with due ceremony at the Pyongyang City Youth Park Open-air Theatre at the foot of Moran Hill on Wednesday evening.

The festival, which brings together performers of art troupes and art squads, itinerant art agitators, and art group members of institutions, factories and farms, will be held, divided into professional and amateur groups. There will be a magic festival.

Present at the opening ceremony were Vice-Premier Ri Song Hak, Vice Department Director of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea Jon Kyong Chol, officials concerned, participants in the festival and Pyongyangites.

Sung Jong Gyu, minister of Culture who is chairman of the festival organizing committee, said in an opening address that the 8th April Spring People's Art Festival to be held on the occasion of the 111th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung is a grand political festival in praise of the sun and an art festival peculiar to Juche Korea which can be held only in the socialist country.

He declared the festival open, expressing belief that the festival would highly praise the personality of Kim Il Sung as a peerlessly great man and his revolutionary exploits, demonstrate the true picture of the Juche-oriented art developing day by day in the great era of Kim Jong Un and inspire the Korean people in their heroic struggle for building a powerful socialist country.

National art troupes and the art squad of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League gave performances at the opening ceremony.
