Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- Thanks to the grand plan of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) for sprucing up Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, the city has turned into a magnificent and beautiful one along with its new history of development. The history of the capital city construction is associated with the undying feats of President Kim Il Sung who mapped out a grand plan for the reconstruction of Pyongyang City during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) in anticipation of the country's victory in the war and dedicated himself to carrying it into practice. In December Juche 39 (1950), the President met writers, artistes and scientists and told them about the spirit of the Third Plenary Meeting of the WPK Central Committee, stressing that officials in the construction sector should prepare a blueprint for magnificently rebuilding Pyongyang, the democratic capital. In January 1951, he called the designers to discuss the plan for the postwar reconstruction and set forth in detail the orientation of drawing up the master plan for the reconstruction of the capital city. Examining the master plan one day in May 1951, he said that the designers should understand the great power of the Korean people getting stronger in the flames of the war and that it would be possible for them to come up with bold and good designs for the people only when they firmly adhered to the stand of victors, thus giving them new strength and courage. And he indicated the specific orientation of transforming Pyongyang into a more beautiful and modern city, marking such beautiful places as Mt Taesong and Moran Hill and the Pothong River as public leisure grounds with a colored pencil he had used to draw an arrow of advance on his operation map. Later, the master plan for the reconstruction of Pyongyang was completed and an exhibition was held at the Moranbong underground theatre in May 1952 to show the prospect of the reconstruction of the capital city. The news instilled confidence in sure victory into the brave People's Army soldiers and the civilians out in the struggle for defending the country. The master plan for the reconstruction of Pyongyang was a blueprint of victory that could be unfolded only by the President with the transparent faith in the victory of the revolution and optimism about the future as his gifts. |
