In order to encourage the working masses' dream of creating masterpieces and their enthusiasm for creation of literary works, the country instituted the June 4 Literary Prize in March Juche 71 (1982).

The June 4 Literary Prize is every year awarded to workers, peasants, university students and other ordinary persons who present excellent literary works such as novel, poem, children's literature, dramatic literature and critical essay.

With the institution of the June 4 Literary Prize as a momentum, many literary works have been produced as masterpieces among the working masses and a large number of them have grown into competent writers.

Lots of admirable literary works were created in the period when the whole country was seething with the movement for creating the speed of the 1980s and in the period of Arduous March and in the early 2000s. Typical are a medium-length scenario "A Girl I Met on My Service Route", a lyric "I Am the Son of a Worker" and the words of song "Girl Riding on Galloping Steed", all of which were produced by ordinary people.
