Nine-storeyed Pagoda of Anguk Temple in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The nine-storeyed pagoda of Anguk Temple is part of the Korean nation's cultural heritage.

The Anguk Temple is located at Ponghak-dong, Phyongsong City, South Phyongan Province of the DPRK.

The pagoda was made of stone in the period of Koryo Dynasty?(918-1392). It is a quadrangle in plane and 6.23 meters in height.

The pagoda consists of platforms, body and head.

Carved on each side of the lower platform were two lotus-flower-shaped hollows, below which bracken-leaf-shaped decorations were made in the middle.

The upper platform is much thicker than the lower one, and its each side was divided into two sections by three columns.

The roof stones are some high, and below each roof are three layers of eaves supports.

The middle part of the eaves line was hollowed straight with each side lifted slightly. There is a trace of a hanging bell on the tip of each angle rafter.

There is a round stone on the upper edge of the pagoda.

The increased heights of platform, body and roof stones make it look as if it were rising upward.

This stone tower is part of precious heritage showing the excellent architectural skills of the Korean nation.

Thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government on protecting the national heritage, the tower is well preserved and maintained.
