Steps Taken to Protect Crops and Land
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- South Hwanghae Province of the DPRK steps up the work to protect crops and land from disastrous abnormal weather.

In order to make full preparations for coping with the abnormal weather caused by El Nino this year, the province has hastened the work for normal operation of the irrigation facilities.

The provincial rural economy committee and city and county agricultural management committees gave primary significance to putting the operation of drainage pumping stations on a normal basis and provided accessories and materials needed for overhauling to ensure the smooth trial operation of hundreds of water pumps.

They are taking agricultural technical measures to enhance the root activation of rice crops through various water management methods and prevent damage by harmful insects.

Yonan and Unryul counties finished the overhauling of dams, maintenance of drainage barrages and emptying gates, while Paechon County has pushed ahead with the work to overhaul various kinds of hydrological facilities at the final stage.

Until now, the province has carried out the cleaning of drainage canals in nearly 1,000 km-long sections.

Industrial establishments in the province, too, mobilize all force and means in protecting crops and land from natural disasters.
