Disaster Prevention Campaign in Full Swing

Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- Different economic sectors of the DPRK have turned out in the campaign for preventing all sorts of natural disasters. Officials of the Central Emergency Disaster and Crisis Control Group are taking necessary measures in close cooperation with the State Hydro-meteorological Administration, scientifically examining the possibility of various kinds of disasters to be caused by El Nino this year. The Agricultural Commission and agricultural guidance organs at all levels are concentrating all their efforts and means on reinforcing reservoirs and irrigation facilities, accelerating the harvest of earlier crops and protecting the crops from possible damage. The electric power industrial sector pays attention to protecting the hydraulic structures, generating equipment and transmission facilities from damage by flood, typhoon and lightning, while observing the volume of water kept in reservoirs and the change of water level. At the construction sites across the country, including Hwasong and Sopho areas of Pyongyang Municipality where the second-stage 10,000 flats and a new street are being built, steps are taken to prevent personal injury by accidents such as lightning and fall during the rainy season and protect people from heat stroke and sunstroke. The coal and mining industrial sectors are directing efforts to installing additional pumps and laying pipes in pit faces at risk of flooding and securing plenty of spares while preventing collapse and landslide. The railway transport field has tightened the supervision of railway, railway bridges, tunnels and other structures and remedied sections of risk rock-slide to ensure the safe operation of trains. The field of land and environment protection has taken measures to remove the defective spots of roads, bridges and retaining walls and rapidly pushed ahead with the dredging of rivers and repair of levees and sea dikes while paying deep attention to preventing landslides and forest fires. The city management sector has made material and technical preparations to supply the people with domestic water come what may, while working to prevent roadside trees from falling in the strong wind and increasing the passage capacity of rain water and sewerage networks. Metal, machine, chemical, salt and other industrial sectors, too, launched the disaster prevention campaign involving all the people. The public health sector has secured reserve medicines while putting rapid anti-epidemic teams and rapid diagnostic and treatment teams always on stand-by. |
