Pidan Island Associated with Leadership Exploits of Peerlessly Great Men
Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- In the northwestern tip of the DPRK, there is Sindo County of North Phyongan Province, called Pidan (silk) Island.

Sindo County is a significant place associated with the feats of the peerlessly great men who wisely led the grand nature-remaking campaign with a plan to turn the deserted area into a chemical fiber raw material base for the happiness of the people.

One day in June Juche 47 (1958), President Kim Il Sung visited North Phyongan Province to designate a site for a large-scale chemical fiber factory using reeds as the main raw material and headed for the tideland on the west coast.

After acquainting himself in detail with the topography of islets and tidelands between them on the rough sea, he unfolded a grand plan to turn thousands of hectares of new land there into a lasting raw materials base by planting reeds.

In August 1966, he visited the tideland under reclamation together with Chairman Kim Jong Il to grasp the process of the project, walking along the mud path and positively supported the Chairman's proposal to entrust the youth with the construction project.

Thanks to the devoted efforts of young builders, the islets in the area were connected by embankments extending more than 40 kilometers and thousands of hectares of land were turned into reed fields, a huge base for chemical fibre raw materials.

A new history of radical change has been opened on Pidan Island, associated with the immortal leadership exploits of the great leaders, under the wise guidance of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un.

In June 2018, the General Secretary visited Pidan Island, weathering a rough sea and muddy road, to acquaint himself with the reality of the county and indicated important guidelines for developing the county and improving the people's living.

He earnestly called for conveying the exploits of the great leaders generation after generation by sprucing up Sindo County as a model unit of the whole country and took benevolent measures to provide the residents on the island with more convenient and cultured living conditions.

The inhabitants in Sindo County have reaped rich harvest of reeds every year, telling the history of the peerlessly great men's love dedicated to Pidan Island.
