The battle for defending Wolmi Islet, a small islet on the west coast of Korea, was fought by KPA soldiers in September Juche 39 (1950) to foil the large-scale Inchon landing operation of the U.S. imperialist aggressors.

The U.S. imperialists suffered disastrous defeat by continued strikes of the KPA in a few months after the start of the war. In a bid to reverse the situation, they launched a large-scale “general offensive” by mobilizing more than 50 000 troops, hundreds of warships and about 1 000 planes.

On September 13 the enemies attacked Wolmi Islet, showering bombs and shells from a large number of planes and various kinds of warships.

At that time, the islet with an area of 0.66 square kilometers was guarded by one coast artillery company and one infantry company of the KPA.

Even under heavy fires, the defenders of the islet with four artillery pieces buried enemy warships in the sea one after another.

On September 14, brasshats of the U.S. imperialist aggression forces including MacArthur commanded the landing operation on the command ship.

The enemies surged toward Wolmi Islet after firing 1 730 shells from warships and bombing indiscriminately for more than three hours, but they suffered a great loss and were forced to retreat.

They, who had failed over and over again in two days of battle, desperately attacked the islet on the third day.

When the last artillery was destroyed and even the shell was out of stock, the defenders of Wolmi Islet sent a last message reflecting their pledge to fight to the last as befitting the soldiers of President Kim Il Sung and turned out in the do-or-die battle.

In the three-day battle, the defenders of Wolmi Islet defeated 13 warships of the enemies, including three destroyers, and delayed their landing at Inchon, thus making a great contribution to implementing the strategic policy of the second stage of the war set forth by the President.
