Pyongyang, July 15 (KCNA) -- The fossil of Gophotherium, discovered in Komun-ri (then Yangjong-ri) Myongchon County, North Hamgyong Province, and the Yangdok Spring Water have been newly registered as natural monuments in the DPRK.

The fossil of Gophotherium was found in the Miocene Formation of the Tertiary period of the Cenozoic era.

The fossil, material data showing the natural and climatic environment in the period, proves that Korea had a favorable natural environment for the birth of human beings in the Cenozoic era.

The History Faculty of Kim Il Sung University newly verified its zoological name and registered it as a natural monument. The fossil is now preserved at the Natural History Museum of the university.

The newly registered Yangdok Spring Water is drinking water favored by the Korean people.

The temperature of the spring water running from a cave in the middle of a valley in the Pukdaebong range is 8 degrees centigrade and the volume of water remains unchanged even in dry or rainy seasons.

The spring water contains a suitable amount of calcium and bicarbonate for digestion.
