Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- A friendship meeting took place in Havana, Cuba on July 24 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War and the 70th anniversary of the assault on Moncada Barracks. Attending the meeting were officials of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Investment, the Ministry of Health, the National Assembly of People's Power and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the DPRK ambassador to Cuba and his embassy members. Speeches were made at the meeting. The deputy head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba said that July 26 and 27, 1953 were a day when the armed struggle of the Cuban revolutionaries against the dictatorial regime started under the guidance of Fidel Castro Ruz, the historic leader of the Cuban revolution, and a significant day when under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung the heroic Korean people won a great victory in the war provoked by the U.S. imperialists. This is not a historical accident but an inevitable coincidence for the two countries struggling against the common enemy and for the common cause, he added. He condemned the U.S. for persisting in its moves to stifle socialist Korea, oblivious of the lesson of its defeat in the Korean war, and expressed invariable support to and solidarity with the Korean people who turned out in the drive for building a prosperous socialist power. The vice-chief of the General Staff of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba said that the revolutionary armed forces of the two countries have forged the relations of comrade-in-arms and developed in the long-standing struggle against the common enemy, adding that Cuba and the DPRK are leading in opposing and rejecting the U.S. ambition for world domination. We will as ever develop the ties with the DPRK armed forces, he noted. The director of the Asian and Oceanian Department of the Cuban Foreign Ministry said that the two countries are developing the bilateral cooperative relations on good terms and keeping pace with each other in close liaison in international arena, adding that Cuba attaches the greatest importance to the special relations with the DPRK provided by the preceding leaders. |
