August 3 Consumer Goods Production Movement Proves Beneficial
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The August 3 consumer goods production movement, created and developed under the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), is now further gaining momentum in the DPRK as required by the new era.

For nearly 40 years since Chairman Kim Jong Il initiated it on August 3, Juche 73 (1984) when he went round a Pyongyang municipal light industrial products exhibition, the movement has fully demonstrated its vitality as a mass production movement of Korean style that helps turn out a variety of consumer goods in a larger quantity by relying on the creativity of the masses.

Amid the brisk work to increase the production of consumer goods under the care of the Party, many new workshops and workteams producing daily necessities came into being at factories and enterprises and home workteams grew in numbers in Pyongyang Municipality alone.

Factories and enterprises in the field of light industry have produced quality grass, fibre and plastic goods and ornaments with idle materials to benefit the people's living, and those in the fields of metal, machine-building, chemical and mining industries turned out daily necessities such as essential ironware and electric goods with by-products, and household goods were made from by-products in the forestry sector.

The August 3 consumer goods production movement has clearly proved in practice the validity and vitality of the Party's policies, following a proud road of its development in the new century, too.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un called for waging the struggle to radically increase the production of consumer goods as a mass movement involving the whole society at the national meeting of light industrial workers on March 18, 2013, and stressed the need to conduct the movement in a more vigorous fashion.

In the period of implementing the new five-year plan set forth at the historic 8th WPK Congress, all parts of the country strive to produce more and better consumer goods, viewing the movement as an important part of recycling.
