Measures for Protecting Crops Taken
Pyongyang, August 24 (KCNA) -- The agricultural sector of the DPRK has taken preventive measures to cope with natural disasters.

Efforts for minimizing damage to crops caused by heavy rain and flood are being made in rural areas.

Yomju County in North Phyongan Province has grasped the actual conditions of reservoirs, irrigation canals and rivers and made positive efforts to ensure the durability of the embankments. The county has also taken more scrupulous measures for protecting crops.

Taedong County in South Phyongan Province has directed big efforts to ensuring the full operation of pumping equipment, arranged ditches in fields and prevented the loss of arable land and damage to crops due to the water flowing down from valleys and standing water.

Officials and agricultural workers in South Hwanghae Province strive to improve the water management while reinforcing the embankments of small and medium rivers and waterways.

Jongphyong County of South Hamgyong Province is monitoring the water level of reservoirs and rainfall in real time and taking prompt measures.

More efforts are being made to protect farmland and crops from heavy rain in other areas, too.
