Project to Cope with Disastrous Abnormal Climate Intensified in DPRK
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The land and environment protection sector of the DPRK directs steady and big efforts to the project for coping with disastrous abnormal weather.

The Ministry of Land and Environment Protection dispatched its officials to relevant areas to grasp again the actual conditions of dangerous places and take necessary measures while maintaining close connection with the State Hydro-meteorological Administration.

Drawing a lesson from the damage in Anbyon County and the Ansok Tideland dyke, it is striving to minimize the damage and increase the crisis response ability in different parts of the country.

A detailed survey is carried on the structures for hillside and streamlet erosion control, and substantial work was launched to push ahead with building and reinforcing the retaining walls and removing debris at coal and ore mines.

Efforts are concentrated on dredging of influxes, straightening and repairing waterways, building of embankments and reservoirs, and clearing out waterways.

Bridges and roads are being repaired and reinforced to stand flood and landslide.

Meanwhile, the coastal areas are repairing and reinforcing coastal dykes and breakwaters and making full preparations so that manpower and vehicles can be promptly mobilized in case of emergency.
