President Kim Il Sung initiated and energetically led large-scale irrigation projects after the liberation of Korea. On October 20, Juche 42 (1953), he saw to it that the institute, a specialized irrigation design organ, was established, and indicated the orientation and ways to be followed by it and wisely led the work for irrigation of agriculture.

Chairman Kim Jong Il unfolded a bright blueprint for converting the irrigation system of the country into a gravity-fed one to turn the land across the country into a land of socialist Korea. He showed deep trust in the institute for putting its designing group in the van of this worthwhile struggle.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has led the institute step by step to successfully fulfill its honorable mission before the party and the revolution, the country and the people in the drive for implementing the programme for the rural revolution in the new era.

Over the past 70 years, the institute has developed into a reliable research group for irrigation design of the country with strong design force and solid material and technical foundation under the wise guidance of the peerlessly great men and achieved great successes in the struggle to complete the irrigation of agriculture.

A meeting took place on Thursday to mark its 70th founding anniversary.
