DPRK Championships Closes
Pyongyang, October 31 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Championships closed with due ceremony at the Kim Il Sung Stadium on Monday.

Athletes from the April 25 Players Team, the Amnokgang Sports Team, the Defence Sports Team of the Ministry of National Defence, the Amnokgang Defence Sports Team and the Central Sports School set 23 new national records in the track-and-field, weightlifting and shooting events.

The top place in the football tournament was taken by men players of the Amnokgang Sports Team and women players of the April 25 Players Team, that in the basketball tournament by men players of the April 25 Players Team and women players of the Kigwancha Sports Team and that in the volleyball tournament by men players of the April 25 Players Team and women players of the Kigwancha Sports Team.

Present the closing ceremony were Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, Ri Thae Sop, minister of Public Security, Vice-Premier Kim Song Ryong, leading officials of commissions, ministries and national institutions, officials concerned, sportspersons and citizens of Pyongyang.

New record medals were awarded to those players who set new national records in the championships and trophies and diplomas to the teams and players that proved successful and displayed high technique and physical ability and good sportsmanship.

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Il Guk made a closing address.
