10-odd Things Newly Registered as National and Regional Intangible Cultural Heritage in DPRK
Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- 10-odd things were newly registered as national and regional intangible cultural heritage and natural monuments throughout the DPRK this year.

Officials in the field of national heritage conservation have made successes in the work for discovering intangible cultural heritage in close contact with relevant units.

The technology of making red-and-blue painting, the legend of Mt Chilbo, etc. were registered as national intangible cultural heritage.

Those reflecting the peculiar regional features were also registered as regional intangible cultural heritage.

Pyongyang boiled rice with assorted mixtures, a special food of high nutritive value, and various brewing techniques, which have been used in the dietary life and the promotion of health among the Korean people from olden times, show the diversity and characteristics of the Korean national foods.

The fossil of a Myonggan whale, discovered in Hosan-ri, Myonggan County, North Hamgyong Province, which became extinct while living in the middle stratum (15.97 million-11.63 million years ago) of the Miocene belonging to the Neogene of the Cenozoic period, and the fossil of Gophotherium, the ancestor of mammoth, were designated as natural monuments.

Besides, the main hall of the Popun Temple in Mt Ryongak, the Kwanum Temple in the area of Pakyon Falls, the Anhwa Temple in Mt Songak, the Jongrung Temple at the Mausoleum of King Tongmyong and other remains and relics are preserved and restored as precious cultural heritage.
