The institute has a nursery, afforestation lab, insect lab and other research labs, e-library and experimental tree nursery. It has all experimental facilities and experimental apparatuses, providing scientists and technicians with better conditions and environment for scientific research.

The completion of the institute laid a material and technical foundation for solving the scientific and technological problems arising in afforestation and forest conservation in the province.

An inauguration ceremony took place on December 13.

Present there were Wi Chol Su, secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, provincial officials and researchers in the field of forestry, and employees of the institute.

Kim Song Gyu, vice-chairman of the provincial people's committee, made an inauguration address.
