It is a large-scale nonferrous metal producer built under the care to President Kim Il Sung, who proposed the construction of a modern metallurgical base conducive to the people's living on November 29, Juche 62 (1973) and dispatched powerful construction forces and competent technical group.

Chairman Kim Jong Il took a revolutionary measure to successfully remodel the Tanchon Smeltery and awarded the precious honor of being a model enterprise in carrying out the technical revolution.

A meeting was held on the spot on Tuesday to convey a congratulatory letter from the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) to the workers, technicians and officials of the Tanchon Smeltery on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

Present there were O Su Yong, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and officials and employees of the General Bureau of the Tanchon Area Mining Industry and the Tanchon Smeltery.

O Su Yong conveyed a congratulatory letter of the WPK Central Committee to the workers, technicians and officials of the smeltery.

In the congratulatory letter the WPK Central Committee highly appreciated the workers, technicians and officials of the Tanchon Smeltery for having made distinguished contributions to the economic development of the country, the improvement of people's living standard and the strengthening of the national power by dint of the spirit of devotedly implementing the Party's policies, the spirit of fortitude and the might of collectivism helping and leading each other forward.
