With an insight into the importance of the research into nonferrous metals, President Kim Il Sung took a step to establish the institute on December 26, Juche 52 (1963).

Chairman Kim Jong Il highly appreciated the precious successes made by the researchers and showed great loving care for ordinary scientists, though he was busy with the revolutionary leadership.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un has led the institute to make sure that its scientists and technicians contribute to the economic development of the country and the people's living standard with valuable scientific research successes.

The institute has made a positive contribution to revitalizing the country's economy by introducing valuable scientific research achievements into different fields of the national economy including the nonferrous metal field for the past 60 years under the warm loving care and trust of the peerlessly great men.

A meeting took place on December 25 to mark its 60th founding anniversary.

Present there were Kim Chol Man, secretary of the Nampho Municipal Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and officials, scientists, technicians and employees of the institute.

Han Pyong Son, director of the institute, made a report at the meeting.
