It is an impregnable fortress as there is the Worker-Peasant Red Guards (WPRG), the revolutionary armed forces faithful to the cause of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), together with the Korean People's Army.

The WPRG, a Juche-based civilian defence force, was founded in January Juche 48 (1959), thanks to the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung who paid great attention to the development of the militia forces.

Its founding was a historic event of epochal significance in building the revolutionary armed forces and establishing the all-people defence system.

Over the past 65 years, the WPRG has developed into a reliable wing of the People's Army, the pivot of the national defence capacity, and into the main force for rear and local defence under the WPK's leadership, thus fulfilling its mission and duty for defending the country and building socialism.

The energetic leadership of the President, who clarified all the issues arising in building the civilian defence forces and led them step by step, was the basic source that made it possible to steadily bolster up the combat capability of the WPRG.

Under the guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il who successfully carried forward and developed the President's military idea and line of self-defence and made sure that the Party's leadership over the militia forces was firmly realized, the WPRG grew into the paramilitary forces with a clear revolutionary character and into the matchless rank capable of annihilating the enemy independently, to say nothing of the coordinated operation with the regular army.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un clearly indicated the tasks and ways for the combat readiness and the preparedness for combat of the paramilitary forces and has led the work to raise a strong wind of intensifying the training the way the anti-Japanese guerrillas did in Mt Paektu, so a new revolutionary turn is being brought out in bolstering up the fighting power of the WPRG.

The military parades splendidly held on important occasions including the paramilitary parade celebrating the 75th founding anniversary of the DPRK fully demonstrated the clear reality of the paramilitary forces recorded in the history of the DPRK's development and the will of the Korean people to make all-people resistance.
