Head of DPRK Delegation Makes Statement at 3rd South Summit
Pyongyang, January 24 (KCNA) -- The 3rd South Summit took place in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, on Jan. 21-22.

It was attended by heads of state and government and high-ranking delegations from more than 80 countries, including a delegation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) headed by Vice Foreign Minister Kim Son Gyong, a special envoy of the DPRK government, and representatives of regional and international organizations.

Salvador Antonio Valdes Mesa, vice-president of Cuba which chaired the G-77+China in 2023, delivered an opening address to be followed by speeches of heads of delegations of different countries.

The head of the DPRK delegation said in a speech that more than 20 years have passed since the 1st South Summit but the international environment for the economic growth of developing countries still fails to get better, and the unequal development gap between developed and developing countries is becoming wider in international economic relations.

He went on:

The prevailing situation calls for the G-77 to firmly unite in compliance with its mission and objectives and to double the efforts in enhancing its negotiating power vis-a-vis the developed countries in the international economic sector and establish a new global economic order based on justice and impartiality.

It is imperative that developing countries strongly reject all attempts to impose certain values or economic models as the one and only formula in South-North negotiations. They should in no way tolerate the unilateral and coercive economic measures that lead to infringement upon sovereignty.

In order for G-77 member states to overcome grave challenges and achieve the sustained development goals, there is an urgent need to set right unequal international economic order that hinders the normal development of developing countries.

All G-77 member states should actively promote South-South Cooperation holding aloft the banner of collective self-reliance which is the key to accelerating development of developing countries and establishing a fair and equal international economic order.

He concluded that the DPRK stands ready to make a substantial contribution to the South-South Cooperation, sharing with members of G-77 successes and experience it has gained in state building and social development, adding that it will remain committed to the historic tradition of South-South Cooperation and fulfill its role and responsibility for shared prosperity and sustainable development of humankind.

The meeting adopted final document of the 3rd South Summit.
