Pyongyang, January 26 (KCNA) -- Taekwon-Do is a traditional martial art showing the mettle of the Korean people. The Korean people established a tradition of developing the martial art culture while playing sports events with the main emphasis on military arts. Taekwon-Do, created and developed with Pyongyang as a centre, has inherited and developed the traditional martial art movements such as Subak and Thaekgyon. Taekwon-Do Hall in the DPRK, the largest of its kind in the world, was built several decades ago. It has everything needed for Taekwon-Do games and training. Many international games were held at the hall to demonstrate the superiority of Taekwon-Do and realize the exchange among martial arts persons from different countries. In the new century, the DPRK built the Taekwon-Do Holy House conducive to showing the origin and history of the development of Taekwon-Do and disseminating it widely. The DPRK has a foundation for the widespread dissemination of Taekwon-Do. A regular education system enabling people to learn Taekwon-Do from childhood and the Taekwon-Do dissemination system for the working people have been established in the country so that the zeal for generalizing Taekwon-Do is high in any region or place. Taekwon-Do is popularized in many countries. In many countries, Taekwon-Do associations for spreading the martial art have been formed and tens of millions of Taekwon-Do players are active. The DPRK has developed and widely disseminated Taekwon-Do technique to demonstrate its might as a native country of Taekwon-Do. Last year, DPRK's Taekwon-Do players won 64 gold medals and 31 cups and came first in the country standings at the 22nd Taekwon-Do World Championships. |
