True to the Workers' Party of Korea's idea of attaching importance to science and technology, those intellectuals made achievements conducive to the economic development of the country and the improvement of the people's living standard through a dynamic campaign of brains and intelligence and contributed to the education of the rising generation.

The title of candidate academician was conferred on Ri Jong Ik, a researcher of the Academy of Social Sciences, according to a decision of the State Commission for Conferment of Academic Degrees and Titles.

Professorship was awarded to 14 persons, including Ri Chol Su, director of Kim Il Sung University, O Yong Chol, a teacher of Kim Hyong Jik University of Education, and Kim Jin Suk, head of a department of Pyongyang University of Medicine.

Doctorate went to 81 persons including Ri Pong Nam and Paek Yong Nam, vice deans of Kim Il Sung University, and Sin To Guk, Hwang Ju Yong, Pak Chun Hyok and Rim Son Guk, section chiefs of Kim Chaek University of Technology.

And 114 persons were awarded the title of associate professor and 811 the master's degrees.
