Love for the people was the basis and starting point of all his thoughts and practice.

"We Serve the People!", the slogan reflecting the basic mission of the Workers' Party of Korea, is the one of the love for the people set by Kim Jong Il, saying that officials should become servants of the people, not bureaucrats lording it over the people.

Looking round a power station built by a unit in October Juche 91 (2002), he saw a fence surrounding the power station and said it was very wrong to fence in such a scenic place. And he said that he could not understand why the fence was built around the area with only a power station, food-processing base and fish farm and even a large iron front gate fixed.

He continued: There can never be privileged people in our society where the popular masses are the masters; if there are such people, they are the popular masses only.

Later, there was an apologizing meeting attended by the workers of the mine and senior officials of the capital and regional areas.

Samsu County of Ryanggang Province and all other parts of the country are associated with the stories of the loving care shown by Kim Jong Il who prioritized the interests of the people.

Indeed, his whole life was the sacred one of the father of the people who devoted his all to them.
