During the festival there will take place more than 530 games of 31 sports events including football, basketball, volleyball, weightlifting, gymnastics and Taekwon-Do.

An opening ceremony took place at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street on Thursday.

Present there were Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, Kim Myong Gun, chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, officials in the field of sports, sportspersons and citizens of Pyongyang.

The minister of Physical Culture and Sports made an opening address.

He called upon all the players to display high sports technique and good sportsmanship during the festival and their coaches to responsibly guide their games to achieve good results.

The festival flag was hoisted amid the playing of the song "The Glorious Motherland".

Then the audience watched a Taekwon-Do demonstration and a men's 3x3 basketball game.
