Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- Women's union officials and members of the DPRK strive to spruce up the land of the country and their residential areas. Those in Songyo District and Kangdong County of Pyongyang laid out landscapes with lots of flower shrubs on the banks of the River Taedong, newly created green belts and planted tens of thousands of trees to add beauty to the area. Riverbed dredging, rubble work and embankment project were carried out in sections of tens of kilometers across the country to improve the ecological environment of regional rivers, thanks to the efforts of women's union members in Tongdaewon District of Pyongyang, Maengsan County of South Phyongan Province, Sinhung County of South Hamgyong Province and other parts of the country. Amid a campaign for protecting the forests from harmful insects, women's union members in Nampho Municipality set up a mobile blocking belt for at least 117,000 trees. Those in Unsan County of North Phyongan Province and Kowon County of South Hamgyong Province have taken measures to prevent damage by harmful insects and forest fire, including the establishment of pests-monitoring posts and fire-arresting lines and the provision of more than 15,000 pieces of fire-extinguishing equipment. Women's union members in Samsok District of Pyongyang and Yangsa-dong, Haeju City of South Hwanghae Province, too, found a good job to improve the appearance of roads. |
