Kim Jong Un took a measure to build an open-air ice rink so that people can enjoy skating all the year round. One day in May Juche 101 (2012), he visited the spot to guide the construction of the People's Open-air Ice Rink.

Going round the ice rink covering vast area, he gave detailed instructions to ensure that the ice rink has an appearance as befits a fine skating ground for the people.

Saying that the roof with ball truss is good to see, he added that if good measures are taken to provide lighting and floodlights are installed, the peculiarity of the building would be better preserved.

Stressing the need to spruce up a skate hiring room, he said a skate edge sharpening room should be arranged, and personally chose its site.

He said that when the ice rink opens to the public, it would be visited by many people, so the locker room should be arranged well. He called for wonderfully perfecting the ice rink as befits a sports center for the country's ice sports development and the physical training of working people, school youth and children.

The ice rink could be built as a fine sports service facility thanks to the meticulous guidance and loving care of Kim Jong Un for the people.
