Pyongyang, June 17 (KCNA) -- Among the natural monuments of the DPRK is Chongbaek-juniper tree growing in Chongbaek-ri, Kumya County, South Hamgyong Province.

The tree, which was planted in around 1550, is 10 meters in height, 5.4 meters in perimeter of root neck, 18 meters in crown width from east to west and 21 meters from north to south.

The tree was divided into three large branches at the height of 0.5 m, and their perimeters are 2.6 meters, 2.1 meters and 2.2 meters respectively.

The tree looks as if a small cloud is gathered when seeing it close at hand, resembling an unfolded wide umbrella when seeing it from a distance.

It is one of the largest and oldest trees on the east coast, and is of great significance in studying the size and age of juniper tree.
