One day in June Juche 107 (2018), the General Secretary visited the county and said that it is an important work for further strengthening the independence of the country's chemical industry to turn the county into a raw material base for Juche-based chemical fibre and increase the reed production. And he called for doing good reed farming to keep the peak-year level and continuously bringing about a harvest of reed in the future.

He specified tasks and ways for bringing about a fresh turn in reed farming such as the issue of increasing the proportion of mechanization in reed production and the issue of manuring and tending reed fields in a sci-tech way.

Saying that the residents in island should be made to lead a highly-civilized life like those in city, he saw to it that excellent hospitals and schools were built in the county. And he took benevolent a step to provide its inhabitants with convenient traffic conditions.

True to his on-site instructions, officials and working people in the county have introduced advanced reed farming methods to ensure the better conditions for the growth of reeds, thus raising the per-hectare yield.

Vast farm fields in the county have a rich harvest of reed every year, thanks to their devoted efforts.
