Tangible Successes Witnessed in Fishing Sector of DPRK

Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- Officials and workers in the fishing sector of the DPRK have made tangible successes this year. Fishery stations in the East and West seas, including the Songdowon, Kim Chaek and Mundok fishery stations, boosted productivity by introducing advanced fishing methods and conducting an intensive fishing campaign suited to seasonal conditions. Culturists of the Pupho Offshore Farm increased the production of kelp and employees of the Wonsan Seafood Production and Processing Station registered a high result in the mussel farming. The Kumipho Fishery Station, the Sinpho Fishery Station and other units set up facilities for next year's production and hastened the spreading of seedlings, thus creating more than 1,530 hectares of cultivation area. Officials and workers of Haeju and Mundokthaehyang fishery stations built several more fishing boats than the planned this year. The Thongchon Fishery Station built a modern fishing base with its ship repair capacity expanded by 1.5 times and the Yomju Net-weaving Factory opened up a prospect for increasing the net production. The Hungnam Ship Accessories Factory provided a guarantee for ensuring the quality of various accessories and the Hanchon Fishery Station established a modern product packing line. The Kaechon City Office for Stocking Rivers with Fishes stocked Lake Yonphung with more than 70,000 young mandarin fish. Over 190 million fry have been released into rivers, lakes and reservoirs across the country this year. Researchers of the Institute of Fisheries have made successes in the study of new fish farming methods. |
