The event of the Lunar New Year’s Day began at dawn on the first day of the first lunar month. There were ancestor-memorial service, formal bow of respect to the elders, Lunar New Year’s dishes treatment, folk plays, etc.

The Korean people, who have respected and paid high tribute to the elders, performed a New Year's bow to the elders of the families and villages, relatives and teachers early in the morning of the Lunar New Year’s Day.

They prepared glutinous rice-cake, steamed rice-cake, fancy rice-cake, pancake, fruit punch, sweet rice drink, roast and fruits as the dishes of the Lunar New Year’s Day. In particular, rice dumpling soup was regarded as the main dish for the day.

On the Lunar New Year's day, people played various folk plays including yut-game, seesawing, kite-flying, sleighing and pinwheel play.

Yut-game is a typical folk play loved by all people. Fine yut sticks throwing, wonderful and witty moving pieces, happy laughter of people added to the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year's Day.

The custom of the Lunar New Year's Day is being carried forward and developed under the leadership and benevolence of the Workers' Party of Korea which values and adds lustre to our things.
