Pyongyang, March 5 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 79th anniversary of the promulgation of the Agrarian Reform Law in the DPRK. The agrarian reform was the first in the democratic reforms enforced in new Korea after its liberation from the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule on August 15, 1945. At that time, the enforcement of the agrarian reform was of special importance in the country where the peasants made up an overwhelming majority of the population. It was the centuries-old desire of the Korean peasants to do farming in their own land to their heart’s content. President Kim Il Sung gratified their wishes for land. He went to rural areas to learn in detail about the demands of peasants and put forward it as the basic principle of agrarian reform to make them masters of land. And he set forth the policy of carrying out the agrarian reform on the principle of confiscation without compensation and distribution without charge and of converting the confiscated land into private property of the peasants, instead of state ownership. On this basis, he promulgated the historic "Law on Agrarian Reform in North Korea". The agrarian reform was completed in a short span of time and more than one million hectares of land, owned by the Japanese imperialists, their stooges and landlords, were distributed to more than 720 000 peasant households free of charge. As a result, the Korean peasants were freed from feudal relations of exploitation and subjugation and became the masters of land for the first time in history. The rural construction in the country, started with the agrarian reform, has now greeted the era of historic turn under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un. The programme for the rural revolution in the new era was put forward and a new history of radical transformation was opened on this land as the rural areas across the country are undergoing a radical change as required by the great guidelines for its prosperity. |
