Work to Protect Useful Animals Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 13 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK, a period from March to July is for the protection of useful animals.

Amid a nationwide protection campaign, the number of useful animals has increased in North Phyongan and South Hwanghae provinces and other parts of the country in the last few years alone, adding to its landscape.

The respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un has meticulously guided the work to protect and propagate useful animals, regarding it as a patriotic undertaking to provide the people with a more beautiful and better paradise.

In April 2012, he set the days from March to July every year as a period for the protection of useful animals and gave an instruction on intensively carrying on the protection of animals with involvement of the entire Party and state and all the people in the period.

He saw to it that the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea adopted it as a decision for each province to breed and release such animals as roe deer and pheasant and supply with fodder in autumn so as to protect and propagate useful animals.

Sanctuaries and temporary sanctuaries for useful animals have been created in different parts of the country and relevant units are managing the sanctuaries well.

Such projects are conducted to create mixed forests in and around the sanctuaries and prevent damage by harmful insects so as to provide favorable habitat for useful animals. Especially in spring, big efforts are directed to preventing forest-fire to protect forests and useful animals.

Also, conducted on a regular basis is the work to survey and register the range of animals living in sanctuaries, those designated as objects of protection and propagation, endemic and rare species of animals in the country and endangered species of animals.
