Rodong Sinmun Saturday says this in a signed article.

"By our nation itself" is the spirit of the nation in the June 15 era of reunification, it says, and goes on:

This spirit instills into the fellow countrymen the consciousness of being the master of the cause of national reunification and the will to settle all the issues of the nation with their own efforts. It is, in essence, the spirit of national independence from A to Z whereby to settle either the issues of relationship between the north and the south or the problem of national reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the two sides.

The internal problems of the Korean nation should be independently solved in keeping with the demand and interests of the nation strictly by the united efforts of the Koreans. This is the fundamental demand of the spirit of "By our nation itself" clarified in the June 15 joint declaration.

It is the demand of the era and the basic guarantee for the independent and peaceful reunification to thoroughly apply the said spirit in the movement for national reunification at present.

"By our nation itself" is not an idea of any specified person but the nationwide idea cherished in the hearts of all the fellow countrymen ardently wishing for national reunification.

Anyone who follows this spirit will be a pro-reunification patriot and anyone who denies it will be an anti-reunification element.

The independent reunification is sure to be realized as there are the June 15 joint declaration, the great programme for independent national reunification, and the October 4 declaration, the programme for implementing it, and the concerted struggle of all the fellow countrymen at home and abroad true to the spirit of "By our nation itself."
