Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the Wonphyong Taehung Fishery Station in Kumya County, South Hamgyong Province. He dropped in at the room devoted to the history of the station to be briefed on the course of its development. Then he went round a processing shop and other production processes and varieties of processed marine products to acquaint himself in detail with the technical equipment and production at the station. He praised its workers for having done a lot of work to increase the production capacity, including construction of wharf, with their own efforts by fully displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance. Learning about the freshness of various aquatic products turned out by the station, he gave a high appreciation of the great efforts made by its officials, workers and technicians to provide much more fresh fish and processed fish to the people in all seasons. It is of weighty significance in further strengthening the nation's economic might and improving the material welfare of the people to rapidly develop the fisheries by exploiting and using the aquatic resources in our country sea-bound on three sides, he said. Stressing the importance to strictly implement the WPK's policy of simultaneously carrying on large-scale fisheries and small- and medium-scale fisheries and thus decisively increase the volume of fish production, he indicated the orientation and ways to do so. He said that in order to conduct fishing operations as required by changed fishing conditions, it is necessary to thoroughly establish a scientific fishing system and widely introduce advanced fishing tackle and methods and, at the same time, carry on the work for exploring new fishing grounds under a long-term plan. Enough modern freezing facilities are needed to supply fresh fish to the people while increasing the haul of varieties of fish, he said. He noted that the powerful heavy industry our people built up with much effort, pulling in their belt, has began to exert its tremendous potentials, making a decisive breach for the rapid development of light industry, agriculture, fisheries and other fields directly related to the people's living. And he earnestly called upon all the fishery enterprises to effect great changes and successfully carry into practice the WPK's intention to bring about a radical turn in the people's standard of living this year marking its 65th birthday, thus making positive contributions to opening the gate to a thriving nation. Accompanying him were Department Director Kim Kyong Hui and First Vice Department Directors Ri Je Gang, Ri Jae Il, Jon Il Chun and Han Kwang Sang of the WPK Central Committee. |
