Present there on invitation were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Ri Ryong Nam, minister of Foreign Trade, Kim Yong Jin, chairman of the Education Commission who is chairman of the Korean Committee for Solidarity with Cuba, Kim Jong Suk, chairwoman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and officials concerned.

The Cuban ambassador said in his speech that the friendly relations between Cuba and the DPRK were provided by Fidel Castro Ruz and President Kim Il Sung, adding that the two countries have supported and cooperated with each other in the joint struggle for defending independence and sovereignty and socialism.

He went on to say:

The close relations of friendship between Cuba and the DPRK are growing stronger with each passing day under the deep concern of Raul Castro Ruz, president of the Council of State and president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, and Kim Jong Il, supreme commander of the Korean People's Army.

He noted that the party, government and people of Cuba would extend invariable support and solidarity to the fraternal party, government and people of the DPRK, hoping that the Korean people would attain all the goals.

Yang Hyong Sop noted in his speech that the two countries have steadily consolidated and developed the friendly bonds in the joint struggle for protecting socialism.

The Korean people are rejoiced over as their own over many successes achieved by the fraternal Cuban people in the struggle to defend the sovereignty of the country, he noted, and continued:

The DPRK will make positive effort to boost the militant friendship and solidarity with Cuba under the deep care of Kim Jong Il and Raul Castro Ruz provided by Kim Il Sung and Fidel Castro Ruz.
