Profound Mourning of Compatriots in North over Demise of Kim Jong Il

Pyongyang, January 17 (KCNA) -- Overseas compatriots visited the homeland to express condolences over the demise of General Secretary Kim Jong Il. Upon their return, they held a meeting in Los Angels at which they noted they were shocked to see compatriots shedding bitter tears over the loss of the father of the nation. Jaju Minbo, an internet paper of south Korea, on Jan. 14 said: "The scenes of compatriots in the north mourning and wailing were unprecedented in world history. Those who witnessed these unbelievable scenes said that their feelings were true, flatly rejecting some media's misinformation that 'they were orchestrated' and 'forced sorrow'". Dr. Yang Un Sik, permanent chairman of the U.S. Regional Committee of the Oversea Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration, said that "all the Koreans were in such profound sorrow and grief that the land of the north seemed to have turned into a huge sea of wailing and lamenting people. During the mourning period the whole north was swept by waves of mourning events reminiscent of seas of people in bitter grief and tears". "Their deep sorrow and grief were a clear proof of their true respect and reverence for their leader. I read reports of some media that those scenes were orchestrated and the like. But I returned after confirming that they were diametrically contrary to truth. It is my feeling that still I cannot forget even a moment compatriots so bitterly weeping over his demise". Hyon Jun Gi said: "I got an opportunity to know a large family system through my condolatory visit to the north. This means I witnessed the single-minded unity. Visiting the homeland, I learned in detail that the DPRK turned into a large family thanks to President Kim Il Sung. "I came back after seeing compatriots in the north sincerely respect and revere their leader and bitterly grieve his passing, regarding him as the father of a family. These were the true feelings of fellow countrymen in the north. Nowhere we could see those scenes were false. The common viewpoint of those who visited the north is that the people in the north are strong in their self-respect and, at the same time, modest and simple. By saying so, we mean they do not tell lies. Those who slander them, terming their lamentation and tears as orchestrated deserve punishment." Ro Kil Nam who covered Pyongyang as correspondent of Minjok Thongshin said: "I watched compatriots in the north covering paved roads in Yongung and Chollima streets with mufflers and overcoats so that the car carrying the bier of Chairman Kim Jong Il might not pass snow-covered roads during the day of bidding last farewell to him. I came to know the fact once again that this is the relations of love between the leader and the people, the relations of believing in people as in Heaven, comradely obligation, the revolutionary obligation and, at the same time, the might of the society in the north. Such relations are the source of 'single-minded unity' stronger than any nuclear weapon. "Most of officials are abstaining from drinking wine usually liked by them though the mourning period was over. Hearing them say they decided to abstain from drinking for a year to come, I asked myself have there been in human history such close relations between the leader and the members of the society. "The conclusion is that no one in the world could and will be able to find such a society where the leader and people have become one as the society in the north." Jong Ki Ryol, visiting professor of Qinghua University of China, noted: "Biting cold subsided and cold wind stopped in Pyongyang from Dec. 27, a day before the date of bidding last farewell to the leader. The snow that fell all night went on till the ceremony which started at 2 p.m. Both sky and land seemed to wail". "On Dec. 28, 2011, the day of bidding last farewell to NDC Chairman Kim Jong Il, the sky of Pyongyang shook with lamentation and grief, sorrow and wail. I asked myself has human history ever witnessed such grand epic of beautiful love of Koreans in the north hard to express with any spoken and written languages as it baffled human imagination and difficult to describe without tears." |
