The statement said that the joint editorial calls for bringing about a decisive turn in accomplishing the cause of national reunification under the slogan "Let all the compatriots open the gates of national reunification full of fresh confidence!"

The north has made positive efforts to open a new phase for independent reunification but the Lee Myung Bak "government" of south Korea defied them, bringing the inter-Korean relations to a total collapse by pursuing such hostile policy toward the DPRK as confrontation with fellow countrymen and war moves, the statement noted, and went on:

The Lee regime is, indeed, a group of war maniacs opposed to reunification as it stands in the way of national reunification, the ardent desire of all Koreans.

The Lee regime should no longer resort to dangerous military provocations in reliance upon the U.S, it urged.

Fully supporting the joint editorial which calls for making a breakthrough towards independent reunification this year, the Federation said that it would wage a more vigorous struggle for national reunification in unity with all patriotic forces at home and abroad under the uplifted banner of "By the Korean nation itself".
