Korean Nation's Ceramic Technique with Long History
Pyongyang, January 6 (KCNA) -- The ceramic technique of the Korean nation has a long and excellent tradition.

In the New Stone Age, the Korean ancestors made various kinds of earthenware including vessels with engraved patterns. The vessels decorated with well-balanced and diverse patterns show well the formative and artistic ability of the ancestors.

In ancient times, they created various molding and baking methods to bring about an epoch-making development in the ceramic production.

In the Middle Age, they invented glaze and, on this basis, made Koryo celadon and makeup ware and white porcelain representing the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910) to demonstrate the superiority of the nation.

In particular, Koryo ceramics, which take a special place in the world history of ceramic workmanship, have been regarded as precious treasures among the people not only in those days but also in the present times for their variety and high artistic value in terms of color, pattern and shape.

The ceramic technique showing the wisdom, intelligence and creative traits of the Korean nation has been developed under the Workers' Party of Korea's policy on protecting cultural heritages.

The Mansudae Art Studio, a comprehensive art production base in the DPRK, turns out peculiar and diverse ceramics needed for the people's material and cultural life while further developing them in keeping with the modern tastes.
