The U.S. imperialists committed the Smith commando, the advance detachment of the 24th Infantry Division of the U.S. forces, to the Osan area as they suffered only continued defeat from the first day of the war by the strong attack of the Korean People's Army (KPA).

Smith, the battalion commander of the commando which made up of the most experienced fighters, boasted that no one would dare to attack those who had the "tradition of victory" and armed with latest heavy weapons. He talked at random that the army of north Korea is a "peasant army" and an "indigenous army" and so it would run away with fear if the American weapons and military uniforms appeared at battle site.

But the U.S. imperialists, who were too ignorant of the People's Army, were mistaken.

After being reported on the situation of the front in the Osan area, President Kim Il Sung issued a battle order to make a full combat preparation for giving a heavy blow to the advance detachment of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces at once and continue to increase the attacking speed.

Upon receiving the order, the KPA made headway against the U.S. forces in high spirits.

On the morning of July 5, 1950, the People's Army, which was pursuing the fleeing enemy, met with the Smith commando on the northern line of Osan.

The tanks of the People's Army rushed into the enemy's line of defense, crushed into pieces the new-type artillery positions and blocked the path of retreat, and the infantry units encircled and totally destroyed the advance detachment of the "ever-victorious division" by vigorous attack.

Smith, who had barely saved his life in the battle, said that victory was impossible from the beginning and, indeed, the People's Army was far stronger than they had thought and, on the contrary, the reality proved that the U.S. forces were not as strong as they had been proud of.

The battle in the Osan area, which opened up the prelude to the defeat of the U.S. imperialists, proved in reality before the world that the U.S. forces vociferating about the "mightiness" are not matchless troops.
