It has given shape to a floriculture manual and issued it to every province. And it dispatched officials to the provinces to grasp the work for flower breeding and solve pending problems.

The work is going on to cultivate the turf of promising and effective species and spread them to all parts of the country.

The garden institute and the Pyongyang Turf Institute are providing the foundation for increasing the production of seeds and pieces of turf after completing the irrigation system on the fields for gathering seeds and producing turf pieces.

The Central Tree Nursery under the ministry is carrying out the plan for standardizing 170-odd kinds of garden plants according to their species.

The ministry is mapping out a scientific standard of urban roadside trees in cooperation with relevant units, while guiding the researchers of the garden institute to establish the standard of laying out green areas on the banks of rivers in a scientific way.

It is also helping relevant regions to select and cultivate garden plants with high ornamental value which are suitable to roadside tree and roof greening.

It is taking a step to apply successes made in breeding such new species as a new kind of poplar tree cultivated by Wonsan University of Agriculture and introducing new technologies into horticultural stations, the central tree nursery and tree nurseries in the field of horticulture in every province.
